After a busy summer school session in June and July, Second Home Learning Center was closed for a few weeks to prepare for the 2022-2023 academic year. We reopened on August 23rd with new classrooms, polished floors, and eager well trained staff to serve our families from Spotswood, Waterman, and Smithland Elementary Schools and a few students from Thomas Harrison and Skyline Middle Schools.
Our JMU volunteers are slowly returning and we are hoping to once again build up our volunteer pool to enhance our learning activities. We are excited to have several wonderful Federal Work Study students work with us again this year. Our middle school students have been benefiting from conversations with JMU nursing students. Oasis Art & Craft from downtown Harrisonburg has installed the Peace Poles they made with our students last summer, and they organized a celebration for the occasion. Kindergarten – 2nd grade students have been enjoying math activities on the Gus Bus, and this school year’s first pop-up produce distribution at our location by the Blue Ridge Food Bank took place a couple days ago. This school year has been off to a good start, and we are looking forward to more fun, learning, and family support to come.
We are in need of a Spanish translator / receptionist for the 2022 – 2023 academic year! Follow this link for details.
